Right In My Own Life

about

Creating a world in which there is justice for the environment and all of the creatures in it is not a small task. It's not going to happen easily or quickly. And if we are not focused, it may never happen at all.
It's up to all of us to do what we can to make a better world.
But even just focusing on that goal isn't easy. We all have struggles of our own, whether it's finances, systemic bias, addiction, or any of the other nearly infinite things that can go wrong in a life. And if you need to take time to fix things before joining the struggle, don't worry. There's nothing wrong with fixing your own life before you set off to save the world!
But even if you have a life that is magically free from problems (good for you, jerk!) there's the overwhelming scope of the issues facing us all. The amount of injustice in this world is enough to make anyone numb. But don't let it.
Focus on what you can do. Right now you have skills that are needed. They may be basic or highly specialized, but all of us have skills that can help. But don't stop there. Get more skills! We need protesters, sure. But we also need permaculture gardeners to feed us, lawyers to get us out of jail and people who know the old ways of living to help us understand how to live without destroying our surroundings. We need (almost) everybody!
Creating a just world needs people of all ages with nearly all skills imaginable. So figure out your skills, learn new skills and figure out how you can use them.
And if it feels like you're just one small person facing a world of injustice, it's because you are. But remember that the forces of oppression are made up of individuals. Know that one day there will be enough of us to turn the tide.

lyrics

We’re not gonna change the world in a day, I don’t honestly expect to change anything half the time.
But if I refuse to do anything well, I don’t think I can live with myself that way.
I wanna live right in my own life. I wanna do something right for you. For a change, for a change, for a fucking change I wanna live right for you.
I try to spend a fair amount of my time doing something right. Like helping those around me and honestly wanting to.
And I don’t drink alcohol cause it made that impossible. But sometimes I still fall short ya know.
I wanna live right in my own life. I wanna do something right for you. For a change, for a change, for a fucking change I wanna live right for you.
And I’d like to save animals and liberate all people.
Tear down corporations and end the wars that terrorize us all.
But sometimes I’d settle for a good school for my daughter to go to and decent wages so the people I know could get by.
I wanna live right in my own life. I wanna do something right for you. For a change, for a change, for a fucking change I wanna live right for you.
