about

A beautiful and delicate balance floats in the seas. When intact this balance allows for an exciting abundance of life. Unfortunately there are those among us who see this vitality as theirs to take. My heart breaks in knowing that there are those who see the oceans as something to destroy.
It's an alarming fact that the world's oceans and the life they support (including ours) are truly in danger. Once massive populations of fish are now reduced to sparse and scattered schools thanks to the frighteningly deadly efficiency of factory ships. Almost every specie of whale, dolphin, and turtle face a critically diminishing population. We foolishly expose the waters to radioactive and toxic industrial waste as if our stains will magically disappear. Our plastic floats and chokes the entire planet.
We have pushed shark populations into a state where only an estimated 5 percent remain. By nearly eliminating an extremely important top end predator we have actually put the algaes that are the world's predominant oxygen source at great risk. In doing this we have introduced the potential for the greatest die-off and mass extinction in our planet's history.
As I am writing this I am on a 2am guardian shift at at sea turtle conservation project in Costa Rica. Earlier in the night an endangered black turtle nested right in front of our project's little bamboo hut. We protected her while she was on the beach and safely moved her eggs to our hatchery where they will have a highly increased survival rate. At sunrise a few of us will head to an isolated beach and remove as much plastic from the shore as we can. I am mentioning this because I want you to know that you don't have to surrender. There is something you can do.
There are those of us who don't view the oceans and its life as something to destroy. We will admire its beauty and fiercely defend it whenever we can and we are not hopeless.
I feel love and inspiration from the fact that the Moon Bandits are compelled to write and sing their hearts out for the oceans and I am grateful.
Dance. Sing. Enjoy. Don't forget to act.

lyrics

And the ocean vast as it is will be destroyed by greedy trolls (Woah, Whoa, Whoa).
Whales wash up on the beaches trash filled bellies and souls (Woah, Whoa, Whoa).
Dolphins snared in nets so we can watch them perform (Woah, Whoa, Whoa).
Orca whales as another babies taken when it’s born (Woah, Whoa, Whoa).
The oceans will burn and the sky’s will turn. There is nothing left to see. Yea the oceans will burn and the sky’s will turn. There is nothing left at sea.
Yea, the world bleeds until the end of time don’t ya know (Woah, Whoa, Whoa).
Plastic lined ocean floors, humans taking their toll (Woah, Whoa, Whoa). They’ll blame consumers not the companies that make all this so (Woah, Whoa, Whoa).
Production, production that’s what ocean life’s for (Woah, Whoa, Whoa).
The oceans will burn and the sky’s will turn, There is nothing left to see.
Yeah the oceans will burn and the sky’s will turn, There is nothing left at sea.(x2)
