Things I Know Very Little About

about

"There's no way around it" they yell as revolution fills the spaces left for us to breathe. The message: Choose your side right now.
As people of color and as oppressed nationalities, many of us have been in spaces where white folks, specifically white men, take up too much space. It is interesting to note that the song runs just a little over a minute. Not too much space taken in a genre where white men dominate. And so, among the myriad of white male fronted bands, Moon Bandits reminds folks that eventually they will choose sides because ultimately, "there is no middle ground."
What is to be done after one chooses sides? This must become the next question white folk ask themselves as they become our accomplices. As cultural field workers, we believe that art is a byproduct of liberation. While it is nice to write songs and paint pictures of our current situation, it means nothing to black people who are killed every 28 hours in this country. There is much work to be done. Organize other whites. Educate each other on our histories that have been lost and stolen. And then put it all into practice.

lyrics

I write songs about things I know very little about cause my skin is white and my life is good don’t ya know.
And I know that there’s something wrong with what’s going on this world but do I really know.
There’s some things that are violently wrong with this world and if we don’t talk about it then we’re saying that that’s just fine. Either we spread awareness or apathy woah oh oh my friends.
And if we choose to ignore the problem then we’re joining with the enemy again.
There’s no way around it. There’s no middle ground. There’s no way around it. Woah oh oh. There’s no middle ground. There’s no way around it. Choose your side right now. There’s no way around it. Woah oh oh. Choose your side right now.
