about

Fitting that I wrote this song while at work, and that I will write a response to this song while at work. Even more fitting is the fact that I drove past much of the southern California agricultural industry to get here. After growing up an angry punk I inevitably got a job in order to provide for myself and my daughter. It was through working, not reading, not thinking, and not talking, that my anti-capitalist ideologies were firmly rooted. And while I remain furious with the fact that my labor is exploited by a small number of elite for economic gain I must also realize that I benefit from much of the exploitation that occurs in this country. While driving past the farm workers this becomes even clearer to me. I want change. I am sick of contributing to the monetary gain of a few while the majority of the people are exploited. It was through attending home demos that I felt the intensity of directly telling those in power that we will not stand for this. I am under no delusion that demonstrations alone will change the world, but sometimes I just have to stoke the fire in myself. This song was written for me and hopefully you as a reminder. It’s a message from my angry punk teenager self to my jaded old working class dad punk self that while resistance may be all I have, it may just be enough to keep this fire burning.

lyrics

We fatten their wallets while they threaten our class, abusing people for money since they learned to make trash.
Vehicles driving past workers picking produce, it’s on the backs of their labor that they start this abuse.
And all the way down the assembly line from those that work with their hands to those that work with their minds.
They’ll tell you you’re lazy if you’re sick of their shit, better get with the game its America you prick.
If you’re sick of making money for those you hate, show up at their doors with mobs at their gates.
We ain’t lazy we hate you though x a bunch
